The District of Columbia Department of Mental Health encourages nonprofit and for profit developers to take advantage of a funding availability recently announced by the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). The Mental Health Department is earmarking $3.5 million to support affordable housing construction and rehabilitation for the exclusive use of residents receiving services through the public mental health system.

All responses to the DHCD issued Request for Proposals (RFP) must be delivered no later than 4 pm, Thursday, September 22, 2011. The RFP package, including all application materials and a reference guidebook, is available in CD format and can be obtained from the Department of Housing and Community Development, 1800 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE, First Floor reception desk. This material also can be downloaded from the DHCD website.

The reference guidebook contains technical information about the funding program and other information that might be useful in completing the application. For additional information, please contact DHCD’s Development Finance Division at (202) 442-7200.

The Department of Mental Health has targeted $15 million dollars over the past four years to support the construction or rehabilitation of more than 400 housing units for residents receiving mental health services. For information about the DMH housing program, please email [email protected].
