The Department of Mental Health is offering a limited number of scholarships to attend the Alternatives Conference 2013 "Building Inclusive Communities: Valuing Every Voice” from December 4 thru December 7, 2013, in Austin, Texas. The annual Alternatives conference is the oldest national mental health conference organized by and for mental health consumers. The scholarship will cover the conference registration, airfare and hotel costs.
Washington, DC—The District of Columbia Department of Mental (DMH) Health Director Steve Baron was invited to attend the June 3 “White House Conference on Mental Health” with more than 200 mental health advocates, policy makers and mental health providers. President Obama opened the conference with a strong message to start a national conversation to increase understanding of mental health and to encourage those with mental health and substance use conditions to seek care.
Washington, DC – The DC Department of Mental Health awarded Kindles to sixteen 5th grade students at the Woodridge campus of Friendship Public Charter School who won a poster contest to show examples of mental wellness. The poster contest was held in connection with Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day on May 9th and included students from the 5th through the 8th grades.
Washington, DC –The Department of Mental Health is now accepting applications from mental health providers for certification to provide the Community-based Intervention Level I, Multisystemic Therapy service for children and youth as well as rehabilitation/day service. Applications must be submitted by June 30, 2013.
The moratorium on certification of new providers for all other services effective August 18, 2012 remains in effect.
The Department of Mental Health (DMH) announces the availability of funding for a one time sub-grant to community based mental health providers certified as Supported Employment Program providers. The sub-grant of up to $22,685.00 will support the hiring of a full-time employment specialist to assist residents seeking employment who are referred within the DMH mental health provider network. The deadline for submitting an application is Friday, May 24, 2013.
