St. Elizabeths Hospital ends its free concert series, “Summer Sounds of Saint Elizabeths: Celebrating 50 years of Music Therapy.”

Washington, DC-- Saint Elizabeths Hospital ends its free concert series, “Summer Sounds of St. Elizabeths: Celebrating 50 years of Music Therapy” with a performance by Spur of the Moment at 7 pm on Tuesday, September 25, 2007. The concert will be on the Hospital grounds, 2700 Martin Luther King Avenue SE, in the rear of the CT-3 Building, near the Congress Heights Metro Station.

Spur of the Moment, an urban jazz band, has performed with nationally known artists, including Al Jarreau, Will Downing, George Benson and Patty Austin. Band members are Wayne Bruce, Kenny Allen and Kevin Prince. It released its third album entitled Urban Renewal in 2006.

The summer concerts, organized by the Hospital’s Rehabilitation Services branch, celebrate St. Elizabeths’ history as a pioneer in the use of creative arts as a mechanism for healing and expression. More than 70 music therapists have been trained at the Hospital.

“These concerts are a wonderful way to integrate our treatment and recovery process with fun events that patients can enjoy with family and friends,” said Dr. Patrick J. Canavan, Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital.
