Saint Elizabeths Hospital Holds Annual Summer Concerts

Thursday, June 26, 2008
Saint Elizabeths Hospital kicks off its free summer concert series.

Saint Elizabeths Hospital kicks off its free summer concert series at 7 pm, Wednesday, July 2, 2008 with a performance by Baba-C, a local drummer who performs an interactive style of music. The free concerts—featuring a variety of music—will be held on the Hospital grounds, 2700 Martin Luther King Avenue SE, in the rear of the CT-8 Building near the Alabama Avenue Metro Station. The concerts are open to the public and will be held each Wednesday from 7 pm to 8 pm through September.

Organized by the Hospital’s Rehabilitation Services, the concerts celebrate Saint Elizabeths pioneer role in music and dance therapy as a mechanism for healing and expression. More than 70 music therapists have been trained at the Hospital.

“This concert is a fun event that is integrated with our treatment and recovery process”, said Dr. Patrick Canavan, Chief Executive Officer at Saint Elizabeths. “We want our patients to be able to participate with family and friends in the kind of events that they might attend after they are discharged.”
